Family and friends and Administrative Professionals!

1. Thankful for our Administrative Professional. Without her, I would have been and still would be lost! She has also become a friend! I think she is pretty great!
2. Thankful for the support from our family and friends as we have announced that Baby J is a girl!
3. Thankful for my sweet, sweet mom who loves to buy her grandbaby sweet girl clothes!
4. For my sister who tells me all sorts of funny stories about her life and college. She keeps me rolling laughing!
5. Thankful that the storms that have rolled thru Arkansas have not directly affected us. Unfortunately, there were some way to close to us and a lady passed away in them. Keeping all of those affected in my thoughts and prayers. Also praying for better weather.

It's A GIRL!

So, we have a big announcement! We went to the ultrasound place (BabyViews - I highly recommend them!!) to see our baby and how it was doing. While there, we learned that the Baby is a GIRL! (As I suspected for most of the pregnancy, so far.) We also learned that she has 10 toes, 10 fingers, 4 chambers of her heart, and looks absolutely healthy! The lady who did the ultrasound checked for Down's Syndrome and Spina Bfida as well as a couple of other potential issues and found that Baby Girl had NONE of these based on the indicators she looked at!! We are SOOOOOOO Thankful that She is healthy!

She rubbed her eyes ALOT while we were watching....
And also changed positions countless times....Her nickname should squirmy because she couldn't stop squirming the entire time.
Such a sweet girl!

See, it says "GIRL"
Not to give her all the attention (though that will be the expectation...I have a feeling). Thought I would show you a recent picture of me. Here I am in the condo in Florida (~17.5 weeks along). I'm definitely starting to show, though, the cardigan seems to hide some of it.

CHEESE! Can you tell it's late and I'm tired?

Sweet sights despite the storms

1. Thankful for being able to go on Monday and see Baby J on ultrasound. Baby J is healthy with 10 fingers, 10 toes, four chambers of it's heart, etc. We also found out the sex of Baby J, but that's for another post.
2. Thankful that we made it home without a drop of rain on our drive.
3. Thankful for our parents and other family who are just as excited to hear updates about Baby J.
4. Thankful that despite the numerous tornadoes, people hurt and killed, and homes/cars damaged and lost, we have been blessed. Praying for continued protection.
5. Thankful for a sweet husband who dotes on me and let's me eat way more Mexican food than any one person should eat.

5. For my Hubs, who not only tolerates my crazy family, but enjoys spending time with them (well, most of the time, but we can't really hold that against him!)....

Just in case you thought I was lost....

I am not...well not right now.

I apologize for the lack of updates. You see, I just escaped 7+ days of misery (work, not personal) leading up to my Florida vacation. Florida? Huh? You ask...when did I mention I was escaping to Florida? Well, I forgot to. Sorry. I'm not doing well at the blog right now. Here are my excuses - 1. The only computer at our house is a converted laptop to desktop as I ( really Blitz helped) dropped it and ruined the screen. Someday we will pay the money to fix the screen or just buy a new laptop...read the words..I am cheap. 2. I am pregnant... 3. Not only pregnant, but anemic...so the tiredness has gone to a whole nother level. 4. Did I mention I had a LONG week??

Back towards the end on March, my mom and her sisters put together a fun girls trip to Florida and invited all the nieces... Knowing that in a couple of months that (1) I'd feel like a beached whale and (2) when I felt better I would have an attachment that probably wouldn't enjoy the beach as much as I do, the Hubs and I decided I should join the girls week..well, for a weekend because I had other fun (work) things going on. It worked out well because by Friday of last week I was desperate for a vacation. The only downside was that the Hubs wasn't going with.

Saturday, I did my all to frequent trek to the Big (Little) City to fly out. Before heading to the airport, I managed to get to eat lunch with my dad for the second Saturday in a row by myself. I love my dad and it's been nice to just spend time with him. Then, we trekked to my grandma's house to visit with her and two of my aunts (one of which was visiting from Wisconsin)...and spent time with them. We ran a couple of more errands, watched the AR Spring Red-White game on ESPN and then headed to the airport...

I arrived in Florida around 9 PM Saturday and have been enjoying the beach, the sun, and the time with my mom and my aunts. We have done the normal - ate til our stomaches hurt, done a lil shopping, and most importantly, laid on the beach for a while...definitely a life of luxury..for at least one more day. It is definitely still nice to be away and decompress.

I promise to update soon on the Babe...see first paragraph for my excuses on why I haven't posted more...I definitely had better intentions that what I have executed! Or maybe I just like to leave you hanging....

The Journey of Baby J...Catching up to the 2nd Trimester

Note - This post may have some pieces of information that you may feel are graphic or TMI so please feel free to skip. It's here for me to document and to share. Through this process, I have felt many times like I was alone or not told about things (definitely could share a post on this topic) that I wish people talked more about...

So, last week I gave a quick synopsis of how we found out and who we told first. I have debated with myself to tell all the details of our journey, but in many ways I feel like it's not fair not to share our experience. Not fair to others and not fair to Baby J. At the same time, I want to respect our privacy. So somewhere in there I will find a balance.

All of that said, the first trimester with Baby J was filled with laughter, tears, worries, and all sorts of emotions. We are happy to be in the second trimester with him/her and to know that as far as we know he/she is healthy.

On January 28th (you may ask why I remember this day...I do because it's my father's birthday), I noticed some bleeding after a week of cramping. After calls to the doctor's office and our nurse at work, I ended up on my way to the ER. I knew the odds. The chances for a miscarriage are high, especially considering how infrequent they are discussed (20-25% before 12 weeks, depending on different research). Also, it seems that I have had many friends who if they have had a miscarriage had it with the first pregnancy. I was uber worried and scared, but prayful that God's will would be done (well maybe not that peaceful, probably more like what I wanted.....). At this point, only Mom, Dad, and the Hub's mom knew about Baby J. So off to the ER, we went. After spending 5 hours there, I was released. The baby appeared to be just fine. They couldn't explain the bleeding other than it might have been implantation (even though it was like a week and a half late...) While there, they took blood and performed an ultrasound, so we got to see Baby J for the first time! It was super exciting!! Too bad they didn't take pictures. They told me to contact my doctor on Monday and let them know what they had found.

So on I went to celebrate my Dad's birthday and tell the rest of the family that weekend. My nerves were still a mess, but I knew that worry and "bad" emotions would not be healthy for Baby J.

On Monday of that week, I contacted my doctor (or really his nurse) and was told to call back if the bleeding came back. They were somewhat concerned with all the cramping, but thought that was normal. So on Thursday, the bleeding came back....a lot less than before, but still there. So, a phone call to the DR occured. The DR decided it was time to come in. So on Friday, I went to the doctor. He did his thing and ended up doing a second ultrasound (yes, two in two weeks!!!) - picture of the ultrasound is below. His conclusion was that he had no idea why the bleeding was going on or the cramping, but I wasn't trying to miscarriage. So I was told to take things easy and call if I had any more issues.

Baby J at ~7 weeks

Sometime around 9-10 weeks, the cramping went away for the most part, though it was followed by nauseous.... Luckily, there has been no more bleeding. Baby J has done well on growing and developing (well, best we know) as he/she should.

We told some select friends about Baby J early on as I needed a support system (with all of the above...I definitely needed help/advice). And the rest, we waited until we had our next appointment (at 11 weeks). Between 11 and 13 weeks, most of our family was told of our upcoming arrival. And the rest of the world found out at 14.5 weeks.

Baby J at 11 weeks

At 16 weeks (and a couple of days), Baby J is still doing well. We had a check up ~1.5 weeks ago where we heard his/her heartbeat again. It's strong at 150(ish). We won't be back to the doctor til the beginning of May when we will do another round of check-ups and find out if Baby J is a he or she....Bets are being taken...with all the money going to me (just kidding!) Seriously, go ahead and give us your predictions. We will be keeping ours quiet until we know for sure...

Thankful for sleep...

1. I meant to write this before passing out last night but as you can tell..that didn't work. In all ways, I'm thankful for the sleep. (Not as much for the 3:30 wake-up by the body but I will survive I'm sure)
2. For my mom who generously gives her time and energy to each of us children.
3. For the Hubs who brightens my day with his love.
4. For God who GAVE freely his Son... He didn't just spare him or was even hesitant about his gift. It amazes me how much he loves us.
5. For Lent and the season of Spring which remind me of the new life and rebirth of life all given by God. It amazes me the beauty that he gives us to experience not only with our five senses but in our spiritual life.

We Are Having a Baby!!!

That's right. A Baby! We expect Baby J, as we are calling it for now, to arrive in late September. Finally the Johnson household will be at an equal ratio - 3 dogs and 3 people. I'm sure the dogs are slightly upset that they won't win majority anymore. :-)

So, I'm guessing you want to know the dirt....so here it is... Well, part of it. I have a feeling this post could last for pages, so I'll just give you the dirt on how we found out, how we told my parents and the Hub's mom, and my immediate family.

The Hubs and I have had several discussions in the past couple of years about kids. We've thrown around everything from having one to fostering. After much praying, we felt 2011 or 2012 would be a good year to try to have a baby of our own. After discussions with my doctor, I knew it could take anywhere from 6-8 weeks to a year, depending on how things went. So around Christmas, I went off of birth control planning to get pregnant sometime late February....but that wasn't God's plan.

Fast forward to January...By mid-January, I felt weird. I thought, well the doctor said it would take 6 weeks..there is NO way I'm pregnant. So I took a test and by golly, I was. The Hubs will tell you that I wasn't romantic or funny in telling him. In fact, I woke him up and said "Uh, I think we are pregnant..." I took a second test that evening and I got the same result (Go Figure...).

Then came the hard part...keeping it a secret. We told both my parents and his mom that weekend. We surprised my parents with a gift of a picture frame and a pacifier. His mom....well, she got the pictures of us, me, and the picture above that we sent to Walgreens for her to pick up. She didn't make it out of Walgreens before opening the pictures. I don't know if she will ever forgive us for making her cry in Walgreens...(Kidding).

We waited until Dad's birthday weekend to tell my sister in person. Then, we called my brother and his wife and shared the news! As well, we went to both of my grandparents house to tell them. My grandma will be a great-grandma for the first time! She is sooo excited! My grandad, well he is a great-grandad times 3, so he is a pro by now. All he has are great-grandsons so far (as we still don't know the sex of Baby J) which is really interesting since he was the father of 5 girls. We swore them all to secrecy until atleast March 3rd, which was our 10 (really, 11) week appointment with our doctor.

More to come on the journey of pregnancy.....

Friday, April 1, 2011

It's Friday!

1. That today is Friday and we don't have real plans for the weekend....
2. That the weather appears to be acting more like Spring and less like Winter...
3. My Hub's who always goes to get food and has been taking care of the house lately....I'd be lost without him.
4. My sister who called me one of her true friends today....
5. Knowing that in 2 weeks that I get to go to the beach.... I need a break....not that I'm doing a lot at home....
