She's A Grand Ole Flag...

Did you remember it's Flag Day? You shouldn't feel too bad if you forgot. Most people, I'd guess, don't remember. I mean, does anyone get today off as a holiday? Do we tend to remember the holidays that we don't have to work more than the other holidays? (I'll be honest, I do!) Who decides which holiday is important enough to excuse people off of work? What criteria do they use?

Anyways, I think Flag Day is an interesting holiday. If you think about how many changes the flag has had in it's existence, it is somewhat awe-inspiring. It is a definite reminder of how much this country has grown and changed in the almost 235 years since the Declaration of Independence was signed. (Okay, so we are really 2.5 weeks from 235 years... I know... The analytical person in me is slightly crazy...) Anyways, its probably the nerd in me that likes Flag Day (or that I grew up surrounded by politicians, you decide..) but I do. I mean, there are several other holidays that I like better, but of the 2nd (or maybe 3rd) tier holidays, its one that I appreciate.

The fact that it's the 14th also means that someone's anniversary is coming up soon. It will be 5 years since I married my best friend and the father of my precious daughter. It's hard to believe that it's already been 5 years. In 5 years, we have moved 3 times between 2 states. We have graduated from college, obtained or first jobs, bought 2 houses (and sold 1), the same with vehicles, grown into a family where the dog to person ratio exceeds 1:1, been to Europe 3 times (2 trips with highschool kids), been to the Carribean twice, on a cruise and other random vacations. We have laughed until we have cried, held each other during times of sadness and heartache, and grown even closer to each other and to God. All of that said, the 5 years haven't always been easy, but they have shown that we are quitters, we won't give up, and that we can, have, and will come out the other end of the trials of life together and stronger. I am definitely a blessed woman. Just thought I'd gush for a few minutes on my wonderful husband...

I hope everyone is enjoying Flag Day and their week!!!
